Veterans Education and Research Association of Michigan (VERAM)

VERAM is one of 83 VA Affiliated Nonprofit Program Corporations (NPC). NPCs are authorized by Title 38 (§§ 7361 through 7366, United States Code) and allow VAs to accept and administer funds from non-VA federal agencies and private industry to support approved VA research and education.

VERAM was incorporated in 1991 and its mission is to facilitate collaboration between AAVAHS and other institutions in order to advance the health and well-being of our country's veterans through medical research and education. It is overseen by a board of directors and has two employees, including the Executive Director, Birgit Roller, and an accountant.

As VERAM continues to grow, it is expanding the services it can offer to researchers. These include:

  • Low administrative overhead charges
  • Quick turnaround on hiring personnel, ordering supplies and equipment
  • CRADA and budget negotiations with sponsors
  • Support for grant submissions
  • Enabling seed funding and bridge money for investigators to foster their VA research careers

Please contact Birgit Roller, VERAM's Executive Director, for more information.
